Hadrians wall

http://bit.ly/2kAhhir
Hadrian wall is a wall that runs through England from coast to coast. It was built and used by the roman empire, we do not know the exact reason it was built because documents on it were lost in history but there are theories that it was an expression of power the natives.

It was built during Hadrians rule over Rome and his biographer stated that he was the first to build an 80 mile long wall. The wall was also used for defensive purposes to repel the barbarians in the north.

The walls thickness and height varied during the construction of the wall. Originally the west portion of the wall was built from turf but it was later rebuilt in stone. It was made from stone bricks and measures at 3 metres wide and 5-6 metres high on the side east to the river Irthing. When it was made of turf in the west the wall was 6 metres wide and 3.5 metres tall.

The walls of Babylon

In Babylon there is no single famous walls but there were two walls in babylon to fortify the city of babylon. The first layer of walls was just your typical run of the mill big thick wall. Then Nebuchadnezzar II (king of  babylon at the time) constructed a second wall to make babylon an impenetrable fortress. all enemies were awestruck when they saw it and so were the inhabitants. the wall was necessary to protect the citizens of babylon from other rulers like alexander the great. However after Nebuchadnezzar's death Alexander the great and Cyrus the great successfully laid siege to babylon and over took it. Over the years the walls of babylon have decayed and have been weathered away all that remains of it nowadays is scattered segments of walls and bricks.

The walls height and thickness varied around the wall. On the side of the euphrates the wall was 8-10 meters thick then the wall near the city centre was 17.5 meters thick and the outer wall was 27-30 meters thick and the height was mostly 30 meters high.

the western wall

The western wall is a wall in Jerusalem and is the most visited place of pilgrimage in Jerusalem. The western wall was built by king Herod in 20 BC. It was a part of the second temple before it was destroyed. After the temple was destroyed inn 70 AD the chief Jew it became his place of pilgrimage where he mourned over the destruction of the temple. It used to be in an alleyway only twelve feet wide and could only fit a few hundred Jews at a time if they were really squished. In 1967 after the six day war the Israelites destroyed the Arab district next to the wall to make more space for the western wall.

the berlin wall

The berlin wall has to be my least favourite wall and really the wall is a infamous wall but it is none the less on my blog.

The walls has along history with Russia and had divided Germany for along time until 1989. It started at the end of world war two when Germany had fallen America, Britain, France and Russia took over parts of Germany making different sectors and then berlin even though it was in soviet territory was also divided into 4 sectors.
You see soviet berlin was under dictatorship and it was an abysmal place to live and the residents there moved to east berlin. With the population in west berlin dropping they had to build a wall to divide berlin and restrict access to and from east berlin.

It was a pretty crap time to live there with all the oppression. There were many people who tried to cross it but many died trying, 138 to be exact during the three decades it was standing. It finally came down in 1989 when an east German official prematurely announced an official border where the wall is
